They should have paid more attention to the history of the area than the money they were receiving. They would have seen it coming if it wasn’t profitable to ignore it.

The CBA has been around since 2021 - before the last club World Cup tournament.

If I’m a player, I see no reason to risk injuries in a game I’m not getting paid for. Makes zero sense to me from a players perspective.

From the MLS perspective, makes perfect sense. They want all the money. Period stop.

The CBA is asking MLS for a reasonable split given the new conditions of the tournament that were not known when the CBA was done. After the first game, players are now playing for free because the first game caps their earnings (win or lose). Wasn’t the case in the past.
June 8, 2025 at 11:45 PM
The CBA splits profits 50/50 for the first 1 million. If Seattle had won in 2022, they would have gotten 1mm and the league would get the other $15.5m

Now the tournament is bigger, players will need to play more games to win, and the bonus for players is still capped at the same amount.

I may have been wrong about 500k for the players based on this website. Seems it’s 500k for the last place team and MLS splits that 50/50. So $250k for 7th place.

“2022 FIFA Club World Cup prize money

FIFA confirmed to Sporting News that the total purse for the event is $16.5 million, spread across the seven-team field. Champion Chelsea will take home a cool $5 million, while runner-up Palmeiras comes close behind with $4 million.”
FIFA Club World Cup prize money breakdown: How much Chelsea won in 2022 | Sporting News
Defending Champions League title-holder Chelsea added its first-ever FIFA Club World Cup by beating Palmeiras in the final, and it left Abu Dhabi with more than just silverware.

*$9.55 mil
June 8, 2025 at 9:56 PM
Deleted last post. Had some wrong info in it.

500k for players.

In 2022 there were 7 teams in the tournament while now it’s 32 teams. Compensation for the tournament is 9.5 for being in it and 2 mil for each win.

Players will get 1 mil for participating and 0 for winning since they capped out.
June 8, 2025 at 9:55 PM
Seattle made the CWC in 2022. The pay was 500k.

The amount of compensation from that tournament increased astronomically and unpredictably.

I guess the players association should have predicted this somehow?

Also notice no strike or forfeit has been called for. Only asking to renegotiate.

“This clause was originally intended for established non-league tournaments like the U.S. Open Cup, Concacaf Champions Cup, and Leagues Cup.”
It was never intended for the club World Cup and none of the other tournaments are comparable in prize money.

This only works if “the left” refers to the right wing neoliberals in the Democrat party.

Progressives have always been about building working class movements that include solidarity with everyone.

Never met a labor organizer pontificating publicly about gender norms. Just politicians.

Pointing fingers at AOC for not cleaning up the mess Jeffries admitted making? Why continue to punch left when the threat is fascism? It's almost like it's intentional infighting.

I have no tolerance for neoliberals anymore.

Let's see something actually stop him.
January 21, 2025 at 2:44 AM
Agreed. I think most would agree this was a decidedly bad year for him and yet he finished tied for 2nd most goal contributions on the team during the regular season (tied with Forsberg) and had the most in the post season.

Yeah my dumbass replied to what I saw in the comments before reading it - which is made worse by the quality of the info in the article.

My bad. Excellent read.

Don't forget the Bogacz and Morales rumors as well. Apparently Bogacz is all but done, just waiting on MLS to sign some documents, according to @mostlybull.bsky.social in a twitter comment.
