The piece was commissioned by the BBC and premiered at the Proms in 1995 (John Drummond’s final season as controller). In 30 years since it hasn’t been performed there again, despite being one of Saariaho’s most performed and acclaimed pieces. Notes on the piece here: www.laphil.com/musicdb/piec...
