If NBC and HBO pause for a beat they will realise they have a commercial opportunity here. Trump will be a lame duck after the midterms next year. CBS and ABC have handed NBC the late night market - if they play this smartly the Tonight Show could become very profitable again.

When President Kennedy did the deal to supply the UK with Polaris submarines for their “independent” nuclear deterrent he offered France the same deal. De Gaulle responded by withdrawing France from the NATO command structure and - for good measure - veto’ing the UK application to join the EU.

It will take a few years but Poland, Germany, Scandinavia, etc will all soon have independent nuclear forces, aligned with NATO but under national control. The UK will continue to pretend they can use Trident or the new nuclear armed F35’s without permission from the Americans.
