At least on our side, they always coexisted. The Modes option has just been given a new button on the extended Quick Action panel, which is useless but which I can't remove 😒

GitHub achieves the former in a fairly interesting way: If your username contains an underscore, it assumes that it's an account that uses SP-initiated SSO — otherwise, the traditional username/password combination is used.
