This trend is partially due to historic lows in border arrests (freeing up space in the largest ICE facilities), and an increase in interior arrests. However, interior arrests aren't at a historic high, and the NE's largest detention center in had over 400 beds open. bloom.bg/43am95w

When immigrants are transferred across state lines they often need to get new legal counsel. ICE detention facilities in the South and SW are remote, with immigration lawyers few and far between. The avg distance to the closest immigration lawyer in Louisiana is over 100 miles.

Hosts don’t style themselves as political-- guests are primarily comedians, influencers, athletes, musicians, but they booked more politicians and pundits before the election and these guests disproportionately garner the most views (30% of top 30) despite making up 1/8 of the 900+ guests.

Hosts and guests discussed voting & elections in 37% of videos with +1M views. Half of the time broadcasters questioned elections integrity and half of the time they called on their audience to participate in elections by voting or by endorsing a candidate.

We designated +80 random addresses across Manhattan, BK, QNS and The BX to collect surge pricing every 10 mins using the rideshare aggregator @obiriders. We use this data to determine if a lockout occured in the proximity of a surge zone.

Of the +3K lockouts confirmed w/ location, we found +400 lockouts occurred in the proximity of a surge zone. In nearly half of cases (44%), the magnitude of the surge increased. Potentially increasing costs for passengers.

Uber and Lyft don’t share data on lockouts, so we built a WhatsApp tipline and shared it with worker groups, web forums, and distributed flyers to drivers directly. We crowdsourced +7K screenshots from <900 drivers (~1% of registered NYC drivers).

The core promise of the gig-economy is flexibility. However, Uber and Lyft locked out drivers nearly every hour of every day w/ no notice. Including during peak hours and Uber "open access times" when drivers are told they can work.

Lastly, we’re not at all ignorant of the literature, especially MB2004! We cite the literature frequently, going so far as attributing the experimental design to the literature.

Why does GPT rank equally-qualified resumes differently based on names? Looking at how GPT represents the 800 names in our experiment as embeddings provides a clue. bloom.bg/3It4cE4

Importantly, GPT isn't biased against one group across the board. GPT's bias differs based on the job description used to evaluate applicants. Resumes with women's names were the most likely to be top-ranked for an HR-role, adhering to gender stereotypes. bloom.bg/3It4cE4

The diff in treatment across groups is substantial enough to surpass benchmarks for adverse impact -- a gov't standard used to test for discriminatory hiring practices. GPT's rankings would adversely impact at least one groups in all 4 jobs we tested. bloom.bg/3It4cE4
