like ok through the galarian star tournament we can assume he's starting to go into this group but it's not like pokemon is specifically thinking about the interpersonal relationships of its gym leaders. but also there's no way these people are friends pre-canon

im well aware that pokemon battling forms the crux of their in-universe socializing but also piers is also very apathetic! literally shows little interest in others except through battling. like can they at least get like one other thing in common
