So it begins...first Christmas present wrapped.

La Belle Sauvage by Philip Pullman. Now that the Book of Dust trilogy is complete, I'm planning one doing all three back-to-back.

Tress of the Emerald Sea by Brandon Sanderson; a much lighter Cosmere story than others I've read to date. In terms of style, it sort of feels like a mix of Stardust and Discworld.

After a long day, is there anything better than a @bertsbooks.bsky.social delivery? Well, yes, a Bert's Books delivery of Terry Pratchett and Philip Pullman, of course!

I'm continuing my jaunt through the Cosmere with Rhythm of War, the fourth book in Brandon Sanderson's Stormlight Archive

My latest delivery from @bertsbooks.bsky.social has arrived; The Waterfall by Gareth Rubin. I loved Holmes and Moriarty, so I'm really looking forward to reading this.

Nora is enjoying it, although I think mostly she likes looking at her own picture!

I'm about 750 pages into Oathbringer, the third story in The Stormlight Archive by Brandon Sanderson. I think that means I'm roughly halfway through. It's certainly a workout holding it up!

Arrgh! A few photos from The Jamaica Inn. A lovely place for lunch and great little museum of Cornish piracy, and of course, Daphne du Maurier.

I'm a little over half-way through Legends and Lattes by Travis Baldree, which is just the comfy read I was hoping it would be, and I'm thinking I'll move onto An Ethical Guide to Murder by Jenny Morris afterwards.

I am still working my way through Death's End by Cixin Liu. I have about 250 pages to go.
August 23, 2025 at 10:42 AM
Someone has found a familiar name, and is a little bit pleased!
August 16, 2025 at 1:16 PM
Im about 170 pages into Death's End by Cixin Liu. It's a much faster paced book than the previous two, but also seems to be introducing some new sci-fi too.

Thank you @bertsbooks.bsky.social for my latest delivery; Death's End by Cixin Liu, The Light Fantastic by Terry Pratchett, and for Bertday, Black Lake Manor by Guy Morpuss!

I wasn't familar with Black Lake Manor, but it sounds intriguing; murder and time travel - my kind of crime!

I am still working my way through The Dark Forest by Cixin Liu; I have about 150 pages to go. It's taken a little while for this one to get going, but once it started, the plot is really gripping.

Lovely evening at @bertsbooks.bsky.social, where we met author @junodawson.bsky.social to discuss the HMRC series and picked up signed copies!

The Colour of Magic by Terry Pratchett.

I have to confess, I've struggled several times over the years to try reading Discworld, but for some reason, it never gripped me, so I've never finished the book. I'm enjoying it a lot more this time, though; I only have 40 pages to go.

Happy Subscription Day to all who celebrate! This month, @bertsbooks.bsky.social has sent me 'Words of Radiance' by Brandon Sanderson, and Amanda has received 'The Assassin's Blade' by Sarah J Maas.
