A red wattlebird, Anthochaera carunculata, has been hanging out to feed on this lovely Banksia serrata in the backyard. They yell at you when you get too close.

Cute and furry Australian pregnant spider weaving a tangled web. Golden orb weaver, not at all venomous.

A spikey visitor in the backyard yesterday afternoon. Probably looking for a cool spot in the heat. The #echidna buried himself deep in the ground for the rest of the afternoon and evening. Late at night they had gone, leaving a freshly dug hole under the fence. #wildlife #australia

Ramshead Range, parts of #KosciuszkoNationalPark, #NSW #Australia. Scattered with granite rocks aplenty, this view is taken from the walking track from the top of #Thredbo to #MountKosciuszko.

Watching TV, power goes out. Circuit breaker tripped. Turned off power points, still tripping. Room to room, still tripping (the breaker, not me). Finally found it: a not so old extension cord. Aren't circuit breakers great? No more fuse wire (yes, I'm that old) and no cords catching alight!

Most agricultural land is used for animal-based food production yet provides minimal calories and protein. 77% of agricultural land yields just 18% of calories and 37% of protein. By shifting to plant-based food sources, we could significantly reduce land use and allow for rewilding of vast areas.

From Vegan Australia

Are animals killed in plant production? Yes, but it’s not just vegans eating plants!

Nearly half of the world’s habitable land is used for agriculture, with the vast majority (80%) dedicated to farming animals for meat, dairy and other animal products. 🌏🥩🥛

Our youngest wonder #dog! A dear little #rescue, now a few years older, his pregnant mother was rescued from a DV (domestic violence) situation. One of 7 #puppies, this little guy came to live with us and our two other dogs. He is about double the size now, but just as cute!

Our food production is responsible for about a quarter of global greenhouse gas emissions and around 15% of Australia's emissions.

To reduce these emissions, what you eat matters more than where your food comes from. Easiest way is to stop eating meat and dairy.

In 2020, Australia committed to the Global Methane Pledge to reduce methane emissions by 30% by 2030. Emissions have since increased, and there are no effective government plans to reduce them. The energy sector has seen some effort, the livestock industry’s contributions remain largely unaddressed.

Plastic is taking over. Surely there must be a better way for delicate food sales? At a minimum a cardboard base? Or select your own produce? It also creates waste as not everyone needs that much and some will surely rot before it is eaten. #plastic #waste #foodwaste
