Steve — I told you Weiler wouldn’t coach until Labor Day! The DC United immigration lawyers are quite bad at their jobs (something I noticed since how long it took to bring in Wayne Rooney). This is consistent with the whole organization. I really wish there was some way to reboot.

It would be great, and I would certainly pay for a paywall if you would write a comprehensive essay on how D.C. United became such a dumpster fire, why this terrible owner won’t sell the team, and what it could take to get him to sell.

The fact that they admitted that no one has spoken to this new coach is amazing. The dysfunction couldn’t be any worse in this organization. I told you he will start Labor Day and by then the season will have been an unmitigated disaster.

Weiler will not start until Labor Day, and the players signed at the transfer window will be from the Latvian Second Division and Uzbekistan Third Division.

By the way Mackay is clearly the problem and is completely delusional to think there are good players on this roster. I agree the coaching was sometimes deficient, but these players are: a) all very injury prone; b) incredibly slow; and c) all lacking in on ball quality. That isn’t coaching.

This is shocking stuff. This really does mean 2025 has been thrown down the drain and Weiler (if he is even hired) doesn’t start until 2026. And then what, why hire someone that apparently leaves after 1 year everywhere he goes. What a clown show.

Given who DC United’s immigration lawyers are—that will take until Labor Day — this is a 2026 hire

Great scoop. Troy was an incredibly nice man who was great with the media. He also had the worst roster in the league to work with — no more than 5 players on the team are above USL level quality. But he was also not part of the solution.

Look at this list of players that Ally Mackay has signed. Only Schnegg is a player that adds value to an average MLS team. All of these other players would be competing for playing time on a USL team. It is embarrassing.

Is there a way to ask the ownership why they think any of this is acceptable? They have been fielding a USL team for at least the last two years. Expansion teams that didn’t exist last year are better, there is no excuse to be this bad this consistently in MLS other than organizational incompetence
