According to Google: 79% of SNAP households included a child, an elderly person, or a person with a disability. So that's about 30M. The other 10M probably work at places like Walmart where they don't earn enough to pay for food.

Autonomous vehicles should be handled like vaccines. Studies should prove that they are safer than human drivers by ~10x. There should be a compensation fund for victims for the rare cases in which the tech fails. This will give enough incentive to manufacturers to only release safe vehicles.

For sure we need to invest in infrastructure including mass transit.

So the options are single family homes or giant apartment buildings with feces. Nothing in between. Anyway, discussions with NIMBYs never get anywhere.

I lived decades in SF Bay and hardly anything gets built and most people can't afford to live here. Do you think that we should keep single family zoning in major metro areas?
June 2, 2025 at 2:30 PM
This article is about the same NIMBY argument we have heard for decades disguised as progressive. The book is about getting the Government to get things done for the people. The article suggests restrictive zoning is not a problem. Like Republicans arguing that Medicaid cuts are not Medicaid cuts.

So you only want to allow one home per lot instead of eight homes per lot because developers are evil? The point of the book is to have a good government that gets good things done. Your logic is exactly what the book criticizes.

This article is a hemorrhage of ideological nonsense with no specific proposals to solve problems. Zoning restrictions make it impossible to build and the article argues that's not the case. Of course it's not the only reason for high housing prices but if you don't build there is no supply.

Really, in a post truth, anti science world it may not be a bad idea to let people opt out of medical science for a small monetary benefit. If they ever request an advanced treatment, they will be placed at the end of the queue. They can proudly show their anti science credentials this way.

If people want to opt out of science, they should be denied the benefits of science. It's easy to talk when there are no consequences.

I disagree. Do you even read the NYT? They published a lot of depressing polls and interviews showing that the race was very close. They were correct. Biden should not have run for a second term and we should've had a competitive primary.

What problem is he trying to solve? The US is already the richest country. Can he write more than one sentence to explain his vision? Also, why do we need to tax coffee and bananas? Are we planning to grow them in the US? Nothing makes any sense.

The reason countries are upset is because the tariffs will kill demand which will lead to a recession. Americans will either pay more for products or not buy at all. Domestic replacements if available will be expensive too.

It's shocking that movies have FBI warnings to individuals about the crime of using pirated copies but now corporations can download the entire archive of pirated books and it's not a crime.

1 in a million severe reactions means that the vaccine is extremely safe compared to not getting vaccinated.

1 in 1 million have an adverse reaction to the MMR vaccine. 1 in 1000 die from measles. 10% are hospitalized. Unfortunately life is not deterministic.

They will make a similar suggestion once the healthcare system collapses. Just use home remedies.
