Painting is my second career begun in 2007 after my retirement. I was born in Cuba, spent most of my life in England, and live now in New Braunfels, Texas. I specialize in painting portraits, my preference being for nude portraits of young women.
Buffy Mayfield was a recent HS graduate when I painted her first in 2008. She was working then at the drugstore soda fountain where I often took my lunch. She has since become my live-in housekeeper. I have made countless paintings of her. She is an outstanding model.

It would be difficult to pick from all the paintings that I have done in 20 years as an artist an absolute favorite, but this one of Paige Yazzie would have to be in the running.

This a my early painting of Ady Fidelin. Adrienne "Ady" Fidelin (March 4, 1915 – February 5, 2004) was a French art model from Guadeloupe. Many photographs of her exist. Before I became a full-time artist (after my retirement from my first career), I only painted from historical & magazine photos.

The model here is Morgan Velma Ashe, a university student in Houston, Texas. She and her sister Madeleine and their cousins, the Yazzie twins, are all favorite models of mine.

This is my business partner Judith Begay, who manages the little art gallery/bookstore we co-own in the Coyoacan neighborhood of Mexico City. Judith's mother, she tells me, used to be an art model, as are her own 2 daughters & 4 granddaughters. How fortunate to discover an entire family of models!

In 2007, the year I retired from my job and took up painting as a second career, Connie Wu was one of the first models I employed. For as long as she remained at university, I often used Connie as a model.

Early in my art career, Davika was one of my regularly called-upon models. Upon being awarded her university degree, she moved away, and I lost touch with her.

Most of my works are life-size and finished almost to the point of being photo-realistic. This, however, is just a hastily executed preliminary oil sketch. The model is the popular historical-fiction writer MW Ashe, whose full name is Madeleine Whitecrow Ashe. I love working with Madeleine.

Here is another of Xiao Li. I believe that, of all the paintings I have ever done, this is the one of which I am most proud.

Xiao Li (born Li Xiao in Singapore) frequently sat for me when she was a student at the University of Texas.

My granddaughter Brenda is the model here. She lives in nearby San Antonio.

Claudia Jenkins is not a professional model, and I have only ever painted her this once. She lives in New Braunfels, Texas, which is also where I live. Claudia waits tables at one of my favorite restaurants. Isn't she lovely?

The model here was Xiomara Antonia Roma.

I usually prefer to work from life, but during the pandemic, several aspiring models sent me snapshots of themselves and invited me to paint their likenesses. This is Bo Jardiolin from the Philippines. This life-size painting is an oil. I never use acrylics or watercolor.
