Knower of stuff, thinker of things, doer of very little. Terminal tech junkie, prone to poking problems with a stick. I once walked over a volcano because it was in my way. Proprietor of the Hobbiton Interdimensional Zeppelin Port.
It is the nature of dreams to often be inexplicable. I once dreamt I met the incarnation of the concept of the color blue. It was the most blue thing possible in the universe. I simply don't have words to describe it though. Sometimes you just KNOW things in a dream, even if you don't know why.

They've tried several times to make Marvel and DC card games. They're all pretty bad.

I like to think of it closer to Edgar from the first "Men in Black" movie. It's a vaguely BioWare shaped monstrosity, made of rotting skin, stretched to its breaking point by a giant insectile monstrosity. It keeps saying "Give me money. For DLC" instead of "sugar. In water."

Hear hear! No True Scotsman could have said it better! Ideological purity or bust!

I hate to be the one to tell you this, but gaslighting is a metaphor. It's also only one word.

Also, I'm totally lying. I enjoyed the heck out of that. Pointing out the errors of smug people who think they've got a lock on "truth" warms my heart.

Maybe try getting an AI to proofread for you?

I think it's closer to one caveman finger paints very well. Another caveman tries to invent a brush because getting your fingers dirty is gross. The second guy isn't any good yet, but he's learning. Nobody's gotta get bonked on the head.

Stop being a victim. Do better than the machine.

Yes. Thanks for saving me the time AND acknowledging that I mostly reply to people that seem like idiots!

It's very heartwarming to see that people appreciate all the time I devote to making fun of idiots who are desperately afraid of change!

Thanks for cheering me up! Have a great weekend!

Kind of? I was mostly poking fun at the fact that some people are always going to be angry at any new technology that comes along.

Yes AI outputs are kinda dumb right now, but there's also a huge current of "AI BAD!" that makes many of the detractors look... antiquated.

Ug. Thrag no like stupid wheel thing. Why you no carry thing like real neanderthal? Wheel for stupid cave-baby who took weak for carry heavy thing. Nobody like stupid wheel. Wheel people bad! Ug ug!

*Mister* Busiek.

Yeah, I can see him somehow saying "Mister" in such a derisive way that it wounds nearly as badly as his rapier.

This should be played in the commercials for literally every democrat running for Congress. "I promise to ensure we still have functioning laws."

I feel you. I'm a bit taller, and it's a REAL challenge finding stuff that fits me at most clothing stores. I'm kinda fat too, and it's like clothing companies are aware that both tall and fat people exist, but BOTH Ar once?! I go to Kohl's and buy all three pairs of pants that actually fit me.

Suddenly regretting watching "Predator" last night.

If you're the sort who takes recommendations on awesome books from people on the Internet, I also recommend Zelazney's "Lord of Light." It's a TOUGH read and easier to understand on a reread, but it's one of my favorite sci-fi/fantasy novels of all time.
September 28, 2023 at 6:21 PM
It is truly depressing how few people know that book. I like it so much I will literally hand a copy to anybody I think might enjoy it. I've probably given away 100+ copies by now.

I think if I provide the vast majority of the work and no other human is participating in the process, then I am the creator.

The genie is out of the bottle. AI art is never going away. Your argument is going to fall on increasingly deaf ears and I'm tired of arguing with luddites. Learn to adapt.
September 27, 2023 at 7:41 PM
I understand what you're saying. I just disagree with it. I believe that by manipulation of the algorithm inside the AI is a fundamentally creative act. I'm certainly doing less work than you are, but your art is ALSO based on art that you've seen and learned from, using tools others made first.
September 27, 2023 at 4:23 PM
No, just incredibly bored of making the same argument while people fail to explain why using algorithms to combine images is plagiarism. I still haven't gotten an answer as to why it's immoral for me to use AI as a tool.

$4 divided evenly amongst all producers of visual media on the internet. Your share of approximately one billionth of a cent should be arriving any day now directly from Microsoft.
September 27, 2023 at 4:02 PM
$4 Canadian. I have receipts.

Ask a stupid question, get a stupid answer.
September 27, 2023 at 3:19 PM
Because I fundamentally disagree with your argument. My belief is that my inputs to the AI create a unique output, and that without me, that image would never exist. I believe I'm using a tool. You seem to believe that the tool is the creator. I disagree with that point entirely.
September 27, 2023 at 9:52 AM
Yeah, but why is the output worth less to you? If I present you an image I make with digital tools such as Photoshop or Maya, but then I lie to you and say it was made by an AI, does that change the value? What if AI makes an image of true beauty through pure statistics? Is it less beautiful?
September 27, 2023 at 1:56 AM
Assuming my output is similar to what both the AI and Rockwell would have made, why is my personal "human algorithm" better than the AI one?

Let's say instead, I ask the AI to make a Rockwell, and then I copy the AI image with paint and canvas. Is that real art?

The lines are blurry is my point.
September 27, 2023 at 1:50 AM
Okay, so what if instead of an AI, I use the predictive tools in Photoshop? I could take a photo and use the "magic eraser" tool to delete something I don't like. The computer decides what to fill in based on my inputs. Is that still art? It's the same trick on a smaller scale. Where's the line?
September 27, 2023 at 1:15 AM
Okay, but if I were to spend hundreds of hours learning to copy Rockwell's style with actual paints and brushes until I could perfectly make a new "Rockwell" on my own with all new characters and furniture, would that be better? It's a human following an algorithm instead of a computer.
