I don't usually wear rings, but these two attracted my attention. They fit! But I can't remember what size they were. I would provide better descriptions of their settings but I am incapable of coming up with an adequate description. This is my own failure. I assure you they are gorgeous.

Last 🧶of 2025 and first 🧶of 2026. The cowl is based on the ReTweed Cowl by Kate Salomon and the not-quite-matching hat was knit using the Super Simple Circular Hat Calculator by Mary Young Smith. Yarns are Atlas from Modern Daily Knitting.
This is a cozy cowl that is about 22" in circumference and 11" high. The cowl starts and ends with a one-inch ribbing section in blue. There are three yarns used together in a linen stitch pattern throughout the body of the yarn. The pattern is ReTweed by Kate Salomon. The yarns are from Modern Daily Knitting. The blue (Mallard) is Atlas. The red/orange (Caretaker) and speckled white (Oeste) are Atlas x MadelineTosh. This is a casual and somewhat sloppily made hat. The hat starts with a one-inch ribbing section in blue, then the red/orange and speckled white are added in and the body of the hat is a striped pattern in stockinette stitch. The pattern is the Super Simple Circular Hat Calculator by Mary Young Smith. The yarns are from Modern Daily Knitting. The blue (Mallard) is Atlas. The red/orange (Caretaker) and speckled white (Oeste) are Atlas x MadelineTosh.

It's been a pretty grim year so I needed a mood boost. I decided to brighten up my life with these beautiful goodies from @peculiarityshop.bsky.social. Thank you!

I have been slacking on my 🧶 posts here, but I have been knitting!

I knit three yellow hats in November. I'm now finishing up a yellow cowl - must use up that yarn! I sent two of the hats off as gifts before taking proper photos but this one is the third. The color is true in the hat pic.

The brim is in a 1x1 ribbing, for three inches, and then the pattern itself is 5 knit, 1 purl, throughout so that there's a neat row leading from brim to crest spaced about every inch around the hat. This hat is the Bankhead pattern by Susie Gourlay. The yarn is Plymouth Yarns Worsted Merino Superwash Solids in the color Sunflower. It is relatively accurate in this photo. A picture of a cowl still on the needles and about three quarters complete. It has a 1x1 ribbing for the first six rows, and then the pattern itself is 2 knit, 1 purl, throughout, moving one stitch to the right each time so that the purl bumps spiral around the hat. It will be finished with an additional six row 1x1 ribbing. This cowl is the Butt-Cold pattern by Brenda Brauner, except the ribbing at top and bottom are my own option. The yarn is Plymouth Yarns Worsted Merino Superwash Solids in the color Sunflower. It is woefully washed out in this photo.

I do think this denim blue hat is going to be cute. It's my "small project tucked in my bag for appointments" project so it could take me a while. Pattern is Stardust Hat by Kelene Kinnersly.

A cowl with bonus hat! 🧶

I had a lot of fun with this one. Linen stitch is fun to knit.

The pattern is the Cappuccino Cowl by Louise Tilbrook. The hat is a modification of the Boxed Squared Hat by Kelene Kinnersly. The yarn is Owl by Quince & Co. in colors Straits, Cinnamon, and Steppe.
This is a photo of a cowl with a hat laid on top of it to the side. The cowl is knit with a 2x2 ribbing on top and bottom and a three color linen stitch as the main pattern. The hat also uses the 2x2 ribbing for the first three inches and then alternates the three color linen stitch with a stockinette stitch for the body of the hat. The three colors used are Strait (blue), Steppe (an orange-yellow) and Cinnamon (a rusty red).

Back to the cowl theme for the year! 🧶

Here is a beaded cowl I finished earlier this week. I used a sequence from page 230 of Cecelia Campochiaro's Sequence Knitting book. The yarn is Malabrigo Rios in Cumparista. I took a beading knitting class recently and wanted to try out what I had learned.
A knitted cowl in a dark red yarn. There is a top and bottom border in a 1x1 ribbing and the main pattern is a spiral sequence stitch. Small beads have been placed evenly every five rows.

I should be weaving in my ends on a hat so I can show off this great hat and cowl set I made, but the spirit has not moved me yet. Instead...

Here is a shawl I've been working on. I'm using the basic design of the Off Tropic pattern by Alina Appasova but without any of the mosaic.
This photo shows a fairly indistinguishable knitting project that is Garter stitch knitting with two yarns. A solid(ish) blue switched at intervals with a speckled white and blue hued yarn. It will eventually be a trapezoid shawl.

I'm not sure I am a fan of the back side, but there's no way to do this as reversible. I'm doing my best to keep it looking clean and presentable.
This is the back side of a piece of knitted fabric. There are mitered squares knit together in colors butter, teal and rose. I'm showing how the seams look as well as some ends that have not yet been woven in. I'm sure someone more skilled than me could weave these ends in more cleanly, but I am doing the best I can. It's good practice for me as weaving in ends neatly is my downfall.

It's past time for a 🧶 WIP status check in on this, I'd say. I'm halfway through with the squares and will still need to do a border on three sides.

I've been weaving in ends periodically so that they wouldn't get too bad, but sheesh, it's still a lot.

I finished a scarf! I knit this using two lace yarns together and it formed a fabulously squishy fabric that I love. It is 12" x 70" in size (unblocked) and it would really benefit from blocking but I just don't have the spoons (or space) for that right now. Additional details in the Alt Text. 🧶
This is a photo of a scarf in progress. There are alternating panels of different stitch patterns (textures). This photo shows all four stitch patterns used by the designer. It is reversible! This is the one photo I have where my camera managed to pick up approximately the right color. The yarn is a lighter blue with a fair bit of white throughout and knits up as a denim blue that is reminiscent of an old, well loved pair of jeans. The yarn is MadelineTosh Prairie in the color Dr Zhivago's Sky. The pattern is Snowfrost by Gretha Mensen. Gretha is a terrific designer. I currently own seven of her patterns and so far have knit three of them. Due to the feel of denim jeans, which I think of as casual, I did not use the i-cord edging in the pattern. I also cast on only 78 stitches so it is narrower than written. This is a photo of one section of a finished scarf. There are alternating panels of different stitch patterns (textures). This photo shows all four stitch patterns used by the designer. It is reversible! The yarn is MadelineTosh Prairie in the color Dr Zhivago's Sky. The iPhone camera used to take this photo consistently refuses to capture the blue of the yarn and instead renders it in gray. The pattern is Snowfrost by Gretha Mensen.

I have three projects on needles and none are going to be finished anytime soon, so I figured maybe I would post 🧶 WIP.

I decided to use the mitered square skillz I picked up from a Louise Tilbrook KAL a few years ago to make a mitered square patchwork scarf. It's an easy one square at a time.
A piece of knitted fabric laid on a computer keyboard. There are seven mitered squares knit together in colors butter, teal and rose, with a border in color butter at the bottom. Above the butter border are three squares, from left to right, in rose, butter, and teal. Above that are three additional squares, the first two in teal, the last in rose. Then above that is one square in butter. The next task is to join yarn to knit another square next to that, in color rose. The intent here is to knit a scarf, three mitered squares wide by fourteen mitered squares long, with an eight row border on all four sides. Squares are 4.5" in diameter.

This pinkish cowl just came off my needles. My fingers are so relieved to have it done. Lace weight yarn 🧶 and small needles are tough on my arthritic fingers.

The pattern is the Little Ladders Scarf by Purl Soho. See the alt text for description and additional information.
Photo is of a knitted cowl approximately 24 inches in diameter and 9.25 inches in height. The stitch pattern is a slip stitch pattern that creates flattish uneven ladder look to the stitching. This cowl is knit in the same stitch pattern throughout so the entire effect is of flat laddering with uneven stitches. It's similar in feel to stockinette but without the curling. Additional information. I modified the Little Ladders Scarf by Purl Soho to an in-the-round to use for this cowl. It's made with two yarns held together -- Juniper Moon Farm Findley Dappled lace weight in color Arcardia along with Rowan Kidsilk Haze in colors Blossom and Crown Jewel. The first eight inches are of the Findley Dappled Arcadia held together with the Kidsilk Haze Blossom, so is a light pink with very faint variegated blues and greens. The last inch and a half or so is with the Arcadia and Crown Jewel, a darker pink. This was a deliberate design choice as I felt it needed a little bit of a pop to make it more interesting.

I am thrilled to say this 🧶 gem is finally off the needles. I finished weaving in ends this afternoon. I love the pattern, which is Shona by Jerusha Neely. I started this in October 2021. It took a while because I hate working with the yarn - it's sticky, oily feeling, now discontinued, not sorry.
A knitted wrap folded up neatly in half and then in thirds. It is about 30 inches wide by 66 inches long and is intended as a shoulder wrap to protect against winter drafts. The pattern is Shona by Jerusha Neely. The designer describes the stitch pattern as "deconstructed seed stitch chevron flanks a zigzag welt and rib motif" which leads to a very pleasing look that I am a little hard pressed to describe. I would poorly describe this as zigzags throughout and a wide border on either side with a combination seed stitch and bias pattern. The yarn is Marisa by Lana Grossa. The yarn color is simply labeled "3" by Lana Grossa but it's a variegated yarn with purple as the primary color. It is speckled with green, red, brown, and varying shades of purple from light to dark. The yarn is 80 percent wool, 20 percent nylon and polyamides and is machine washable, dry flat. I hate the feel of the yarn. It's sticky, almost oily, which tells me it's not something I would want near my skin in a fire. I am remiss in sharing but I haven't been online much lately. I've moved on from cowls to scarves! Here is a stripey scarf I finished recently. 🧶

The pattern is Electric Diagonal Stripes Scarf by Dana Freed Fiddes, with some of my own modifications because an all stripe scarf would make me crazy.
This is a scarf with striped and solid sections, folded up neatly on a blonde wood table. It is knit on the bias and is about 6-1/2" x 82". The pattern called for a yarn over but I have substituted M1L for the yarn over. The yarn is Berroco Merino 401 in Merlot (deep red) and Crepe (light pink). This is a scarf with striped and solid sections, laid out on a rug. Each end has twenty four stripes and there is also a center section of 36 stripes. Between the striped sections are two solid sections in the deep red and light pink yarns on either side of the center. It is knit on the bias and is about 6-1/2" x 82". The yarn is Berroco Merino 401 in Merlot (deep red) and Crepe (light pink).

We're coming up on a full decade of chaos courtesy of Donald Trump and the Republican Party. So tired.

The man inside is looking out the front window looking both very alert and scared at the same time. He has at least three rifles nearby. If this same cartoon was drawn in 2025 it might tell the man to keep his eyes peeled for dangerous immigrants who have come to steal his job or are gang members here from Venezuela to wage war against our country.
