Folks with UK passports should speak more with immigrants to understand their experiences of the system! After my MPhil I had to return to my home country for a few years before I could do a PhD. After the PhD I got the work visa, but unsure if I’ll be able to renew it in this political climate!

It’s not an extension, it’s applying to a different visa and of course meeting the requirements for the new visa (and paying for it). In my case, after my MPhil I couldn’t secure a work sponsorship, but I did after my PhD. So I applied for a Skilled Worker Visa while still on a Student Visa.

Visas are a nightmare. Immigration law is complicated and it is designed to discourage immigration. The best candidate doesn’t get the visa, the candidate with the right to work does. It’s not enough to be good, you also have to have a certain nationality.
Please talk to immigrants and trust them.
