Stalagmite in the cave of aven d'Orgnac. I'm not sure of the official name but it definitely should be: The Snail.

The nightlife here in France is quite something!

Bloody-nosed beetle (Timarcha tenebricosa). So-called because they exude droplets of so-called nosebleed (but which is their bright red-orange hemolymph coming out of their mouth).

Me and @agneskreiling.bsky.social have seen a lot of cool species while on vacation in #Spain: #chamalaeon, #flamingo, #octopus and a huge #robberfly.

It has been a treat visiting @Theresahenke.bsky.social and hear about her work on #bioinvasions.

Yesterday morning was frosty, but with a clear sky. So a long walk with the dog was in order.
Brought the camera and got some good #insect photos. Here is a #tipulidae.

It's #GlobalBigDay today. Tens of thousands of people have been out recording birds. I did not put in a lot of effort, but managed 28 species.

I joined @agneskreiling.bsky.social in some freshwater fieldwork today. Well, I took care of the kid and dog, while she and a colleague did the fieldwork.
It was way colder than expected (3°C) and snowing a bit.
But seeing a mallard with ducklings definitely brought some feelings of spring.

Here in the #Faroes we see small flocks of Purple sandpiper (Calidris maritima) on rocky shores and sandy beaches. This one, however, I encountered in a stream a bit more inland.

The New Zealand flatworm (Arthurdendyus triangulatus) has decimated #Earthworm populations in the #Faroes. It probably was introduced by people who were importing non-native trees in the 1980'ies.
This one I found in our garden, close to our compost heap where there are no Earthworms.

A great egret (Ardea alba) in the #Faroes today. Only recorded a handful of times here.

It's always cool to visit the #Aquarium in #Tórshavn. Here, for example, is the Grey Gurnard. A #fish which walks on the seabed and proruces sounds such as 'grunts' and 'knocks'.
