And then the events of last year unfolded in Gaza, and our hearts were broken. I reached out to Naomi as a fellow Palestinian American to tell her that we needed her voice, specifically, at this moment. We needed her poem... And she, out of her incredible generosity... 3/

I want to tell a story about the great honor of having this poem as part of the folio. When we started the project, we invited Nye to be a featured contributor. With too much on her plate, she politely declined. As a huge fan, I was beyond thrilled that she even replied. 2/
