I read slowly.

I love Karl Ove. I recognize that it is weird to love reading about a man cleaning out his tub, but there's something about big crises happening in the background of the day-to-day that really gets me.

Here's my October recap #booksky

Lots of non-fiction. I've been talking about Being Mortal a lot, especially in shared-decision making conversations with patients advocates.

Made it to Toronto. Didn't even try to make it inside. Despite the frown, I am jacked to be here (like my new favourite Jay, home plate unit).

Are we just going to not talk about home plate unit's even bigger friend???

My first Erik Larson.
So far so good.

Oddly enjoying the nostalgia of "this book continues on disk 8"

Get ready, family. I'm about to spew a bunch of cool facts about prostheses.

I love Mary Roach!

This inspired me to be a better caregiver, one who has slow and careful conversations about my loved one's priorities and fears. #currentlyreading #booksky

Being Mortal by Atul Gawande has been so helpful as I care for my aging family members. The historical perspective and the science are really comforting. Being a caregiver is really hard, and it's nice to know the science backs me up on that.

First published in 1956, The King of a Rainy Country is now gorgeously published by McNally Editions.

#currentlyreading this lovely bit of queer fiction.

The star of this month's show was definitely Glorious Exploits. What a wonderful book.

I've been thinking about Céspedes's portrayal of life under Mussolini. It would do us well to read fiction about authoritarianism, to see people oppressed by it, to imagine the fight before us.

Diving deep on this 14hr #audiobook. Not sure what I think about it yet but I'm definitely learning new things. #currentlyreading #booksky

Who was it? Someone on #booksky or #litfic 🖋️📚 recommended Glorious Exploits to me and it turned my world upside down.

This is the best book of my year.

August was for heavy reads. Lots of weeping dog walks to the sound of absolutely brutal audiobooks. My neighbours think I am nuts.

Recovering from dental surgery today with this new bookfriend. So far I am drawn right into Ferdia Lennon's dark dark humour.

Looking forward to diving deeper into Glorious Exploits.

#currentlyreading and learning from Everything is Tuberculosis by John Green. So far it's a stark depiction of a real killer that so much of the west assumes forgotten.

Still working through the International @thebookerprizes.com longlist. This one was not my favourite, though, as a wayward millennial, it cut deeply.

Another International @thebookerprizes.com longlist treat for the summer. Fast paced meandering. Is that a thing? If it is, Kracht is a master of it. #booksky 🖋️📚

If you didn't know the name of the place, if you didn't read the street signs or know anything about its history, could you still sense its story?

I learned so much from Ibtisam Azem's The Book of Disappearance.
