On our weekend trip to #Edinburgh, we learned of this surgeon who taught medical school. He was buried in #Greyfriars Kirkyard. His skeleton is surrounded by the tools of his trade while he still teaches from a textbook in his hand. #macabre #Scotland #tombstone

When temps recently dropped into the 30s, our heater was broken! While waiting for a new part, we relied on Victorian methods from my MIL’s youth during “the war” to keep warm. We bundled up, stoked a fire and slid a bed pig under the sheets — a first for ex-pat me. It stayed toasty all night.

In rural Scotland, where we live in summers, hares roam wild and free in the fields and forest surrounding our home. They cross our gravel driveway, and nibble and frolic in the fields all day. Such delightful creatures. #ScotishLife #Hare #Nature

Claude #Monet painted over 200 #WaterLilies paintings. At Museé de l’Orangeries in #Paris, I sat in both large oval rooms built to display Monet’s massive Water Lilies murals for art lovers to absorb peacefully, surrounded by his beautiful gardens. It was exquisite.

My mother-in-law's second husband, BBC Producer Reggie Smith, was married to artist/writer Olivia Manning before she died. This is a collection of books signed by the authors to Olivia, who were all personal friends of hers. We'll auction them one day, but for now they are a conversation piece.
