I’ve never understood why they’re not legally publishers? You couldn’t just print any racism sent in to a mag or newspaper, you couldn’t read out any nonsense someone emailed in on the telly, You couldn’t just stick a racist rant in a newsagents window without repercussions. How can x or Facebook?

Makes sense. I thought companies paid the premium (and hence the vat) and then employees were taxed as a benefit in kind. Will be liable for vat on excess I suppose. Either way, seems another half thought through policy idea.

Isn’t a lot of private health care provided by companies to employees? Presumably they can therefore reclaim the vat anyway?

..But think he was written as a man out of time even then. Maybe I’m over romanticising, they were at war, there were stereotypes and derogatory comments but the jokes never seemed to derive from that, but more often from the pomposity of the characters making them…..probably an essay here somewhere

Also can’t think of anything that could be viewed as “problematic” in today’s world, which is pretty unique for an older comedy. Jones has some mannerisms (and an amazing pronunciation of “Farquhar” or similar that I’m amazed they got away with) but he was written as a man from a bygone era for them

Why do you think Nintendo are different? Its origins in making toys? Their management being gamers? The financial or cultural confidence to not panic and withdraw after a “failure”? Or do I over romanticise Nintendo, as the sole survivor of my own childhood gaming memories?

Arguably though, Nintendo have survived several hardware release “failures” with a board that supports this attitude.

But 1000 “justified” retaliatory murders by a society is not worth the murder of a few innocent members of that same society carried out by the state in the name of justice. And that has been a proven byproduct of any capital punishment system.

It’s vengeance. Not justice. I’m sure any individual personally involved would want to exact such revenge. Those individuals who forgive such barbarism against their loved ones have a love in their hearts I wish I shared. But it’s always seemed sadistic to me me for a state to want to do it.
