Some weak northern lights here a couple of days ago. I haven’t adjusted to the shortening days yet and when it’s pitch black at 3 pm my body keeps thinking it’s bedtime

Happy birthday to my wonderful dad who turns 81 today! Here he is back in August with a bucket full of cloudberries that he picked all by himself

When I studied in Trondheim I lived in one of these cosy houses. As far as I remember, these were not purpose-built as student accommodation but repurposed. Still, they don't make 'em like they used to

Started Jon Fosse’s new novel “Vaim”

The conference I attended in Trondheim posted a few pictures. I'm sad to report that I instantly recognised myself from the bald spot… Though the Magdalen tote and the blazer is also a dead giveaway

The idea is that no matter what a copy will survive for the future. This is absolutely fascinating and the NL are clearly doing a lot of work on trying to avoid unreadable file formats for the future and supplying enough metadata (I think this might interest @richove.bsky.social in particular)

Digitisation of analogue material is particularly interesting. Some museums hand this off to the National Library to preserve it. They first check the integrity of the files and then make three copies onto disks and tapes. The copies are stored at three different locations across Norway

Aside from AI, one of the topics concerned what to do with digital born files (like photography or video) if museums seek to preserve them for the future. Especially when an archive (as it does in one case) contains more than 3 million files (many of them duplicates)

Attended a really interesting conference by KulturIT. They make a range of IT services for the museum sector in Norway (and even for some Swedish museums)

NRK (the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation) livestreamed the moving process for the Oseberg Ship. Proper slow TV since moving it safely takes a long time

It’s the little things. I bought myself a library stamp! 😅

Cross section of the Round Tower and Trinitatis Church complex in Copenhagen. The tower was used as an observatory and the church attic was used as the university's library until the 1800s

Got my course certificate yesterday for Introducing Mapping, Spatial Data and GIS. It was a lot of fun and I look forward to using GIS in my own work going forward!

Pleased about this poster I made for an upcoming lecture on the forced evacuation and burning of Finnmark, and the liberation and reconstruction of the county afterwards

Yeah, so I bought a book pillow and snake weights… I don’t know what that makes me
