People do hype it as a revolutionary sort of game; I think it's more comparable to a Final Fantasy X? A romp about grief and familial trauma through an alien world. Poignant and emotional sometimes, completely ridiculous at others. Engaging systems, beautiful tunes, not for everyone but iconic.

I think E33 is significantly easier to digest than NieR Automata, as far as onboarding goes. It's funky and weird; I played it as part of a game club activity for a month and it sparked a ton of discussion.
