Of course, there are differences between the Corvus species as you said. But the same goes for different Jay and Magpie species. The term Crow in that regard is often used colloquially to describe the whole Corvus genus, hence the common differentiation between "small Crows" and "large Crows". 2/2

Yes, they are Corvids (Corvidae) but that term describes the whole bird family, whereas the common genus within the family to which Crows and Ravens belong is the genus of Corvus. Meaning their species are way closer relatives to each other than to Jays (genus Cyanocitta) or Magpies (genus Pica) 1/2

Ravens and Crows in fact are quite the same thing. They belong to the same genus, Corvus. Only their size makes a real difference regarding the naming of individual types. All Ravens are Crows, but only a few Crows are Ravens.
