the point of the ballroom obvs has nothing to do with aesthetics. it's to create an architectural structure to honor the patronage networks that currently dominate US politics. previous WH venues hosted maybe a couple of hundred people; this hosts nearly 1,000 rich donors.

The very uncharitable profits of JustGiving which takes fees, a cut of gift aid, and then asks donors for a tip! bit.ly/4nzZpDV much better to give directly to the charity, but if you do use JG always set tip to zero. But you can’t stop it snaffling some of the Gift Aid

Did you know that there is a block from the Parthenon embedded in the Washington Monument in DC (there was also to have been one from the Temple of Castor in Rome, a gift from the pope, but it was nicked before it could be inserted)? I didn't. tinyurl.com/s7967ubb
