Curler and coach, drinker of all sorts of alcoholic and occasional non-alcoholic beverages, hater of conspiracy theorists, left-center-ish in politics, and always up for a smart conversation about any of those topics.
I would have asked if I had to time to explore... but they kept us busy!

(We went out for group dinners the nights we were together, but it was very much a fly-in, work, fly-out event... more exploring the next time I hope!)

Glad you enjoyed the recommendations in Kelowna! 😀

I would doubt that these events are money makers for arena clubs, given the costs. It can be a struggle to find dedicated rinks to host events (in Canada), and their costs are lower than an arena club.

I wouldn't understand why you wouldn't want the best possible conditions for any national event. If an arena club could pull it off, that would be fine. However, preparing arena ice to make it championship-quality ice requires a lot of work, resources, and money.

Don't downplay your chances. Summer spiels are all about bad ice, missed shots on the ice, made shots in the bar, and a whole pile of silliness.

It might be your year!

You've got to be kidding. If you're a climate change denier, you're anti-science. And only in the US is this considered a controversial topic.

I'm from British Columbia CA as well, and lived here for most of my life. It is getting warmer with more unpredictable weather over the years.

He's in Canada as the King of Canada (the Head of State in Canada), distinct from the British Crown. The title is in a personal union under Charles III.

And he's in Canada to send a message to the US. You figure out what's being said.

I enjoyed curling there while working in the NCR, and I also curled at OCC. Some of the most fun and competitive clubs I've ever been in... miss it. Don't miss winters there though... 😆

Peter Navarro is a clown trying to justify something by spinning bullshit and gaslighting. Keep trying to sling your bullshit, we know the real trouble with crime in Canada is coming from the US, not Mexico.

Talk to the local volunteers too… I’m sure they’ll have plenty of suggestions!

I’m one of the coaches at the Junior camp there in July and I always wind up playing the spiel as well (first weekend in July). It’s always a lot of fun… great club to visit.

I’d expect there may be some special events there over the Brier for that. They do a drop in taco (Sat) and burger (Sun) and a beer and curling.

If you’ve never been to the Kelowna CC before, you should check it out… I’m there every summer and it’s a great club. 12 sheets! Say hi to Jock (the club manager), he’s a great guy.

And the Patch for the Brier is across the street from the arena… oh the stories from the Patch that we can’t tell… 😂

CRAFT Beer Market has a place nearby, enormous tap selection, decent food. Downtown Kelowna has a lot of good food options for a city its size… you’ll find all sorts of places.

If you can, make the drive over to Barn Owl Brewing (15 minutes away). The beer is good, some food options and it’s a really cool spot (and they have their own coffee shop out front too).

Breweries… BNA is really close, decent beer and food, and they have their own bowling alley… 😂. Red Bird and Kettle River are also walking distance and favourites of mine. And the Kelowna CC is in the area too, they usually have a good selection there.

And if you need food or beer recommendations (other than the Patch)... I may know a few places... 🍻. I grew up in K-town, and I still get back that way quite a bit.

Very Nice! Enjoy Kelowna and all the curling... I wish I were heading up, but life has conspired against me.

They're going to do an amazing job with the Brier this year!
