Qualified Integrative Counsellor working in further and higher education.
Interests - Music, DJ'ing, Films, Retrogaming
I've literally got less than ten quid in the bank to last me another week till pay day. My partner can't help as she had a run of ill health resulting in having to change her job and she doesn't get paid yet. So I'm hoping I can make eBay sales over the next week otherwise no eating or drinking

In August (against a lot of highly talented people) I got my dream job as a Student Counsellor at a local further and higher education organisation. I've been there almost a month now and everyone has been very welcoming and so friendly. (2)

Blimey it's been three months since I posted on here. So in July I became a qualified counsellor after four years in total of studying. If someone had told me ten years ago that I'd be a qualified counsellor I would have laughed at them. (1)

Busy couple of months ahead with uni results next week, a holiday in a few weeks and something I'm not talking about because I don't want to jinx it. I'm already melting in this heat which doesn't mix well with my asthma and eczema.

Great rock night last night. Quiet to start off with but the room soon filled up. Next one won't be till the beginning of August as we've got holidays planned. Was good to blow off steam. Had some promising news at the end of last week and hopefully it'll be VERY good news next week. Fingers crossed

Hoping this week will be an improvement on the last one which was a rollercoaster of frustration, anger, disappointment and worry. I'm at a point where I'm trying to spin too many plates at once.

Had no reply at all. Looking at their posts from last week it looks like they're going down the "we're on Tik Tok live" with videos of an empty club route. When will these people learn that the younger crowd aren't going out and certainly not spending money? (2)

More proof that it's getting harder to find local DJ work. A venue that I worked at for a number of years has recently reopened after a number of failed attempts. Asked DJs to message their FB page which I did explaining that I worked there for about nine years and can play a variety of genres (1)

We only just managed to sustain a monthly rock night by doing it voluntarily (i.e no pay) and my partners buy banners/wall art/props out of their own money and bring along speakers. We generally get a great response with a regular audience. But DJ'ing as a career for me I think is now over (4)

To be fair when I was DJing 10-15 years ago and getting loads of people in the club there was always one or two people who would moan about song selections/wanting their song played next because they're leaving in five mins etc etc. But these days it feels like people have had enough (3)

After my monthly rock night I've been going out into town at midnight on Friday. To say it's quiet is an understatement. Places that used to be busy even just a couple of years ago are now lucky to have 20-30 customers in. Really uneasy atmosphere of looking out for trouble in case it happens (2)

Read today about the hassle that a sax player endured at a local venue. Part of the reason that a lot of people don't go out because they don't want to mix with this type of behaviour which of course eventually kills off the trade. (1)

After ten months of being 'out in the field ' I've completed my mandatory one hundred hours of counselling clients. Looking forward to continuing my journey with two months left of my course still to go.

#nowrereading #dylanjones Was it really thirty years ago. A time for me of realising I was on the wrong uni course and leaving to work in a music store. Moving out of home aged 24. Many nights out and seeing great bands.

Getting those Sunday night 'back to school tomorrow ' feelings. Think it's because life is busy right now. I've completed 90/100 hours of counselling placement hours and the course classroom time ends in about two months. Still around another four assignments to complete.

Only a few months left of my foundation degree course in Counselling. Of course it's end loaded so there's about another four assignments due in over a short period of time. Will be quite strange when it's over.

Here's another vintage photo of me circa 1990/91 in my Joe Bloggs baggy top. Didn't particularly like photos of myself as a teenager so I'm glad now an old friend has found a few.

An old friend sent me this from approx 35 years ago (!) Times were a lot more simple and if I could write a letter to my younger self I'd say not worry so much and be so self conscious. In my twenties I was quite anxious and depressed which made life hard for five years. Thankfully I'm still here.

@daddyhoggy.bsky.social Hey John, hope you're keeping well? Noticed you're not tweeting or on FB so found you here. Really shocked to hear about your old neighbour passing away.
