Because his constituents told him not to. Every Mayor, Regional District chair and First Nations Chief told him they didn't want an election. So he abstained.

The current law applies only to those 60 and over, so I would imagine the rules for benefit entitlement would be the same if the servicemember remarried at age 58 or 59.

If a veteran marries (or remarries) after 60, their spouse is not entitled to their pension benefits when the veteran passes away. This will change that.
