Power hitting catchers are becoming more common as scouting is starting to seek it. However, normally the trade off is bad defense. Cal is good at both which makes him extraordinary. Traditionally, the catcher was scouted for their leadership of pitchers and a mediocre batter at best.

They don’t get as much BP bc they are in pitching meetings everyday to strategize. Switch hitters typically need to double up their BP for each swing too. Also, they constantly get hit by pitches & bats. Their hands get hurt catching 100mph repeatedly. Plus their knees & hips wear out faster.
