Feeling politically exhausted?

Keep this in mind:

Power is temporary. Precedent is powerful.

Every political tool used by one side can, and will, be used by the other in the future. This isn't a time for despair, but for documentation and organization. The pendulum will swing back.

With everything going on in the world today, the Cracker Barrel logo seems trivial.

The obvious advantage of streaming over movie theater movies is you can watch them at home. The secret weapon of the streamers, particularly when it comes to movies where the characters have strong accents: subtitles.

Did you know the Purple Gallinule is sometimes called the "Swamp Hen"? These birds are incredibly agile, using their super long yellow toes to walk right on top of lily pads! #FunFacts #Birdwatching #Nature

So much to do.

Nest to build, eggs to incubate, babies to feed...and of course, spiders to eat.

The little blue heron has a fascinating transformation? Young birds are entirely white, often mistaken for snowy egrets, until they gradually develop their slate-blue plumage.

While they may nest in colonies, Little Blue Herons usually prefer to hunt alone.

More from a recent trip to Bald Knob Wildlife Refuge.

I was hoping to see it catch breakfast, but much to the disappointment of both of us, that did not happen 🙁

Blue Grosbeak. Photographed at Bald Knob Wildlife Refuge (4/26/25).

I followed an entire flock for about 20 minutes and these are the best shots I could get.

Apparently, they weren't in the mood to pose.

Wisteria fun fact!

Did you know those beautiful, fragrant blooms are actually pea family members? 🤯

And some vines can live over 100 years! 💜

Sweet Gum blooms? Yep, they flower! 🌳

While we often focus on the leaves & gumballs, here's the lowdown:

* They have separate male (catkins) and female flowers. 🌼
* They appear in the spring! 🌸
* Those blooms eventually become those infamous gumball fruits.

Carolina Jasmine (Gelsemium sempervirens) is blooming!
💛 Gorgeous, fragrant yellow flowers, but remember: it's NOT true jasmine and all parts are toxic. ⚠️
Still, a stunning addition to a southern garden.

The first few years, this little beauty was all yellow.
Each year she has more and more of a red tent.
Apparently, Mother Nature intended for Roses to be red.
