“Leeds Women’s Aid is deeply shocked and saddened by the brutal attack in Headingley on Saturday. The targeting of innocent young women enjoying a day out on one of the country’s most popular pub crawl routes is truly horrific, and the incident has understandably caused shock and fear across our community. There has been widespread and damaging social media posts speculating about the suspect, who is currently under investigation by counter-terrorism police. We will be following developments in the case closely. The rise in violence against women and girls, often fuelled by online extremism, is deeply concerning. We call on social media platforms to take meaningful action to tackle harmful content and work collaboratively to prevent tragedies like this from happening. We also encourage individuals and organisations to call out this behaviour and work together to end violence against women and girls. Our thoughts are with the victims and their families during their recovery.” -Nik Peasgood, Chief Executive of Leeds Women’s Aid

According to research from the Money and Pensions Service, 56% of UK adults aged 18 and over don't have a Will. 🔍

@westyorkspolice.bsky.social have launched their #ItDoesMatter campaign to raise awareness around non-contact sexual offences.

64% of all women reported that they had experienced unwanted sexual attention in public places. We want to empower victims to report these offences, because #ItDoesMatter.
Speak Up. Stand Together. Stay Safe. On a night out I left my drink unattended and later blacked out. My friend said I was just drunk, but I know my limit, I wish I reported it to help me reclaim a sense of freedom and safety. My feelings matter! Yours do too. An alarming 85% of women aged 18 to 24 and 64% of women of all ages reported that they had experienced unwanted sexual attention in public places. This is unacceptable. Speak up and report it. #ITDOESMATTER

We've put together a list of exciting events happening in Leeds for International Women's Day, where you can enjoy yourself whilst supporting a great cause, as each event is raising vital funds for Leeds Women's Aid!
Water Lane Boathouse Quiz, 3rd March 7pm: International women's day special quiz. 'She Creates' at Wellington Place, 6th March 11am - 2pm: An afternoon of pop-up stalls and crafts from female-led businesses in Leeds. 'SheSounds' at Hyde Park Book Club, 6th March 7pm: A celebration of female artists and musicians, showcasing their talent. M&S Pudsey bikeathon, 7th March, 9am-6pm: join staff instore cycling 200 miles in distance in total! Super Friendz IWD Photography Panel, 7th March 6.30pm: Celebrate IWD with an inspiring panel featuring local artists and curators & a book swap. Belgrave Music Hall IWD Event, 8th March 2pm - 3am: This IWD Belgrave are hosting DJ, broadcaster and music curator, Tiffany Calver! Headrow House IWD event, 8th March 11pm: Headrow House and Lock the Doorz are putting on a special IWD night. 'Women in Music' at Hyde Park Book Club, 9th March 7pm: An acoustic music night representing and supporting women in the industry.

This intense behaviour is used as a tool to hook you into a relationship and is often the start of a pattern of coercive control and emotional abuse.

Sexual violence can be a form of domestic abuse, as it's often committed by a partner. For instance, 1 in 2 rapes against women are committed by a current or former partner.
