A much-needed win for GUKESH!!

Now he gets to have a nice rest day.

Ding just took too much time in these two positions, and it cost him as he flagged.🚩

In the first position, he spent over 30 minutes; in the second, 17 minutes.

Ding will look to recoup and relax for the upcoming set of games.

Knock! Knock!

Gukesh D- "Who's there?"

Ding Liren- *breaks into Gukesh's house* "THE DOOR!!!"

It would work better with, "Ding Dong!", but you can't have everything in this world.

In 1997, Garry Kasparov played a rematch against Deep Blue, an IBM chess supercomputer, in a six-game match.

Garry won the first game, and Deep Blue won the second game. Games 3,4, and 5 were draws, so it came down to the last game.

Deep Blue then beat Garry in 19 moves in the last game. UNREAL!

Ironically, this post will make it 405 posts. 🤣

Emanuel Lasker, 2nd World Chess Champion, was friends with Albert Einstein.

In the posthumous biography: "Emanuel Lasker, The Life of a Chess Master", Einstein wrote a preface that said, "Emanuel Lasker was undoubtedly one of the most interesting people I came to know in my later years..."

This chess set is made from the wings of the Morpho Didius butterfly, better known as the Giant Blue Morpho.

Supposedly, the wings are gathered after natural death from a butterfly farm.

I figured given Bluesky's Logo, you all would appreciate this.

Chess is the great equalizer. Age and physical strength become smaller considerations, and knowledge of the game becomes paramount!

Case in point: Here is future World Chess Champion Magnus Carlsen at 13 years old playing former World Champion Garry Kasparov. He was able to hold for a draw.

Former world champ Vladimer Kramnik pranks Magnus Carlsen by shaking his water bottle before his game against Sergey Karjakin! 🤣🤣🤣

Lucas Van Leyden's, "The Game of Chess" depicts what a chess set from the early 1500's looked like.

I love art like this, because it acts as a mini portal into the past and shows our progress.

I wonder what sort of evolution will happen in chess in the next 500 years.

This painting, "Lady Howe mating Benjamin Franklin", was competed in 1867 by Edward Harrison May.

Lady Howe was the sister of English rear-admiral Lord Richard Howe, who was somewhat sympathetic to the American cause at the time, and the "chess lessons" were a ruse for Franklin and Howe to talk.

That's AMAZING!!

I also saw the pawn you did, and it looks pretty good too.

I love chess in art, one of my favorites is "Lady Howe mating Benjamin Franklin", painted in 1867 by Edward Harrison May.

Keep going!

If I was as good at art as I am at chess, I would have been an artist.

Hi Gary, that's not true.

Both players shook hands with Putin.

I get that right now people really don't like Putin, but we don't need to engage in false information.

Nearly 10 years ago, Magnus Carlsen played against Anand to defend his title of World Chess Champion.

The match was held in Sochi, Russia. As part of the closing ceremony, Vladimer Putin congratulated Magnus and spoke on the role of chess in Russia.

Chess and politics have always been intertwined.

Happy Birthday to the legendary José Raúl Capablanca, born on this day in 1888, who would become the 3rd World Chess Champion from 1921 to 1927.

Pictured below is Capablanca at age 21, and at age 50 with his wife, Olga Chagodaef.

He would die 3 years later in 1942 of a brain hemorrhage.

LMAO!

I was freaking out when I got this like, I would lose my mind if I got a follow of that magnitude, even if they didn't realize it. 😅

GM Hikaru Nakamura doesn't only milk 2500 GMs while playing the cow opening, he also milks actual cows!

This is the 1st ever American Chess Congress, which was held in 1857 in New York City!

The legendary Paul Morphy won 1st place in the grand tournament and received: a Silver Pitcher, 4 goblets, and a Salver!

The Congress wouldn't meet again until 1871.

For those chess enthusiasts that have too much money, allow me to introduce you to the "Pearl Royale" chess set.

It will set you back a few million dollars and has over 510 diamonds set in white gold along with some accent sapphires.

How can you tell the black pieces from the white? The pearls.

Did you know that the largest chess piece in the world is located in Saint Louis, Missouri at the World Chess Hall of Fame?

It stands at 20 feet tall (6.096 m) and 9 feet, 2 inches (2.79 m) in diameter at the base and weighs in at 10,860 pounds (4,926 kg).

Chess is one of the most equalizing sports.

Age pretty much goes out the window, and it just comes down to how strong you are, and how well you play.

Case in point, here is a 13-year-old Magnus Carlsen going up against Garry Kasparov.

Note that Magnus was only an IM at this time and still drew.

Chess is always here for you!💙

It's such a fascinating game, and a rich history that I love to dive into.

One of my favorite pictures comes from when Garry Kasparov and Viswanathan Anand were playing in the 1995 PCA World Chess Championship in the World Trade Center, and they went to the roof.

In 1995, Garry Kasparov and Viswanathan Anand played for the newly formed PCA World Chess Championship.

During that Championship, Kasparov and Viswanathan took this legendary photo.
