Legitimate pitch I received today for a service to promote to my students who want to be authos. Don't worry, they can offer ghaostwriting, too. And a discount! 👻

How my candidacy reading is going...
I made countdown formulas and a spiffy chart for my reading spreadsheet.
That counts, right? #phdstudent #englishphd

Imagine my delight when I discovered today that used classical music LPs sell for $5 at the record store...that's all!! Sorry to say that I won't have the record player until tomorrow, so tonight I'm just looking at the covers.

I'm in the midst of writing my course outline for Wri 426 Romance and Erotica (conted.ucalgary.ca/search/publi...), and this ad from our extension programs came up on LinkedIn. Honestly, I would say that also MY life is changed by teaching just as much as I hope for change for my students.

I visited the @romtoronto.bsky.social as a research student today to access their Herbarium for a writing project for my PhD...I wish I could go back to tell eight year old me these things are possible. What an incredible day!

A rhyme I've learned as I continue to work with the Herbarium:

sedges have edges,
grasses do not,
rushes are hollow
but they're all monocots

Some of my doctoral research for my science fiction English PhD has led me to the @ucalgary.bsky.social Herbarium for the summer. Today I looked at the pulvinus of a runner bean and some wild oats (which are not good to sow because they choke out beneficial cereals).
