In Ken Russell's poetic adaptation of the D.H. Lawrence novel, he masterfully captures how the four protagonists fumble blindly, seeking love without knowing how to return it, demanding love without earning it, and giving love without committing to it.

Attempting to live his life as though he were the hero of a romantic novel, Redmond Barry's lack of self-awareness blinds him to the flaws in his character, which, while successful in getting him where he wants, unfailingly stand in the way of getting him what he wants.

"Popeye" is the most charming, sweet-natured film of Robert Altman's career. Quirky and whimsical, "Popeye" bears Altman's stamp in ways both beneficial (he's a wonderful ensemble director) and detrimental (the film is almost recklessly singular in its vision).
