I don't know if this is off the mark but fwiw, it's important to note to the critical person you have a right to mutually beneficial communications & also the right to not tolerate strong negativity.
It may be the case the critical person was triggered & twisting the conversation to their view.

What is great about EVs in general is they lose value quicker than sour cream on hot day.
The good news is, after 2 years one can count on paying around half the msrp for almost any EV.
The bad news is the depreciation doesn't stop. Due to this most will be in a parts desert after about 8 years.
