I agree and it was a point of growth for him over the years. He clearly had lived experiences though, that signalled that he needed to be visibly distant and I can at least respect the principle of that and the clear ethical boundary he set up.

The most influential person in my career did this, but he was very sensitive to the power dynamic. I've worked for or with him over fifteen years and the only time we've met alone not in-office was when he made a big professional ask that could and did change my career (for the positive).

This does happen. It might mean women trainees only get in-office meetings with the door open and witnesses passing by in good supply while male trainees can have more convivial coffees or lunches (still with lots of witnesses) with the same mentor.

I'm glad we're in agreement. But there are nearly three million people in the province and telling them they're bad, shameful, awful people for the views of a handful of their neighbours does nothing but divide us further.
