Maybe it’s the mother in me, but FFS we don’t tolerate our kids fighting, we tell them to stop it, & sort it out. You’d think if you were the leader of a country you’d have the skills to defuse any level of tension & sort things out like grown-ups. I’m sure I’m not the only mum feeling this way.

Huge news: EnergyAustralia has acknowledged that carbon offsetting is not the most effective way to reduce emissions, and they will now focus on direct emissions reductions.

Last year, @pollyjhemming.bsky.social explained how the government's Climate Active is facilitating greenwash ⤵️ #auspol

Hmmm..was it the ‘AcTiviSts’ (scientists, independent experts, former ACCC chair) forcing businesses out of the govt’s carbon neutral certification scheme?
Or the fact that the scheme is a legally fraught garbage fire that puts businesses at risk?
Just so hard to know!

The damage to society done by normal use of Equinor's sold products is about 3x the company's current value.

I really cannot think of any other product with as fucked up a ratio, on this

In a landmark #greenwashing legal case brought by @parentsforclimate.bsky.social, #EnergyAustralia has publicly acknowledged that offsets do not undo the harms of burning fossil fuels & apologised to more than 400,000 customers of its carbon #offsetting product

Massive congratulations to @parentsforclimate.bsky.social for launching the legal action against EnergyAustralia and securing a landmark result: an apology for greenwashing and a commitment to direct emission reduction.

They grow up so fast.. we can’t wait for some future thing to safeguard their futures. We already have more extreme weather. Waiting will make it worse. Later is too late. We need to hurry up and get more batteries into the energy system now and expand rooftop solar everywhere.
Our window to act on climate change is like watching our kids grow up. We blink, and we miss it.

Is it any wonder that countries all over the world are investing in renewable energy when it’s the thriving future of precious children that is at stake?
