Facts such as: when elephant seals dive to depths of up to 5,000 feet (!), their lungs collapse. To help reinflate their lungs at the surface, elephant seals produce a special mucus (“pulmonary surfactant”) that acts as an anti-adhesive — allowing their lungs to easily re-expand!
