We love the transparency of the basic stats, but for a more succinct summary, we created an Uneven Exposure Index. This is interpreted as the min. proportion of peers, on average, that would have to be swapped with peers in other income percentiles to achieve an even distribution of peer income.

When these students aren’t engaged in choice options, they are disproportionately concentrated in traditional public schools.

The graph here tells the story: every kindergarten cohort with a disproportionate share of students previously reported to child welfare is a traditional public school.

I find evidence that a specific subgroup of disadvantaged students--those previously reported to child welfare--are considerably less likely to opt out of traditional public school and into charter, magnet, and private schools.
