Here for kpop and dramas (k/c/j)
Seriously.

And finally: the second couple were in a different drama in my head. I wanted them to hatef*ck so bad for most of the show (I know it was a soft-focus g-rated drama but the vibe was there, I swear) and yet I was surprisingly touched when they got all mushy and had their cute happy ending. 3/3

Second thought (now I'm gonna get controversial): I enjoyed the cheater ex. He was awful but in a fun way. His slimeball behaviour was amusing most of the time and I really liked that he suffered for it. The end of his arc was quite good.

His family? Terrible. FFW got a workout with them. 2/3

Ah... the secret weapon of every drama watcher! 🤣

Wow, those weekenders are a commitment! I get antsy at 30 hours, so bravo to you for the perseverance.

I haven't yet but I heard great things about it. I was not in the headspace for a heavy drama when it aired, but it's on my watchlist.

I think Cha Eun Woo has really grown as an actor over the years. Yes, he was an emotionless plank in Gangnam Beauty but also he was a rookie playing a tsundere - a type experienced actors can fail at.

But I was absolutely charmed by him in Rookie Historian, and he was great fun in The Island.

I finished 16 before taking this break.

I have only tried two of his dramas (Only for Love and the devil one). I did drop both shows and his 'so tsundere you'd think he was a robot' vibe was a big factor.

One of my spreadsheets tracks how long dramas are in total hours of watching and nearly all the ones that require more than 25 hours are cdramas.

I like the (variably trashy) "minis" that clock in at 6 to 10 hours, and I'm happy that there are more quality webdramas coming in at 10-15 hours.

I've seen this happen across all the drama types I watch - the dreaded "fill the episode order" mandate that kills plot momentum or logical character arcs.

I find it harder in cdramas because they're already longer than most j- and k-dramas (even with the shorter episode lengths). 1/2

I have been enjoying it (especially Cheng Lei - his smile short-circuits my brain) and I'm sure I'll go back to it unlike some dramas I abandon due to pacing. It's just not the right time for me to enjoy a leisurely plot.

I am feeling that there has been a slowdown but I find this happens to me with many cdramas. When Destiny Brings the Demon, Go Go Squid 2, and Smile Code are all in "got bored" limbo on the slim possibility I'll give them a second chance.

I know this is a me problem, not a problem with the dramas.

That's where I'm at right now... something short but full of forward momentum. I just rewatched a short drama, and I should check out what's finished recently for a new adventure.

I enjoy this trope when it's done well. Sometimes it's a lazy excuse for a connection, but then there are times when it's heartmeltingly wonderful and I swoon.

It was an accidental binge for me because I could not stop. I literally spent from morning to midnight of my seventh wedding anniversary watching this.

(I'm still married, amazingly, because my husband is a gem)

DYX has always been an expert at those "falling/fallen in love" looks, but without reciprocation where's the joy? Glad I never started this one.

He proved that he can smoulder 🔥 that's for sure.

Watched and rewatched 🤣

I have both a drop list and a "I've decided I didn't want to watch it so don't accidentally put it on the plan to watch list again" list because I have a goldfish-memory when it comes to shows and movies.

Ooo... A new column to add to my sprawling database! I wonder if it will reveal anything about my cdrama drop history.
November 11, 2025 at 3:17 PM
Oh most definitely. The writer's other works are two favourites, and I've never been mad at the cast when they showed up on my screens.
The concept could go either way, though... If the miscommunication is dire I may steer clear, but if it's funny I'm in.

The top MDL review is titled "Deliciously Deranged" so it's going on my plan to watch list now!
