"Already wealthy schools do not need a leg-up from the taxpayer. It’s fine for private schools to have building funds and ask for donations, but public money could be better spent on public schools."

That’s so great! I also did the course, and thought it was fantastic. I worked for a time on an adaptation of it for the Carers NSW project on the Central Coast. So encouraging to see all the excellent work being done in a person-centred approach.

Private schools receive huge amounts of federal funding for infrastructure that could otherwise go to public schools for capital works like building upgrades, solar, air conditioning. As tax payers sending our kids to public school we also subsidise over funded, grossly wealthy private schools.
Federal funding for private schools
In 2024, the Commonwealth Government will spend an estimated $29.1 billion on schools in Australia. More than half of this – $17.8 billion – will go to private schools.

In the meantime our public school kids and teachers are sweltering through heatwaves in classrooms without aircon. Nowhere in the school the kids can escape heat for even brief periods. They are begging to stay home. It’s unsustainable in our changing climate.Solar and aircon for public schools now.
