it just feels like Talamasca is leaning into "tell not show" and implying things that then don't really seem to line-up.

now, this could also be because again we're doing a vicarious first-person experience through Guy, but the settings and circumstances are so strangely bland, comparatively.

so like, every time he and claudia encounter a new city or a new world war or new vampires, it's all new to them. there's so much of their telepathy and skills that (at least in the unreliable narration) isn't known to them, so everything's a discovery. there's always an implied grander scale.

when you're following Louis' life with and without Lestat, there's the fact that you have the unreliable narrator reveal at the end of season 2, which is incredible, and also everything before that really does establish the first-person focus that makes everything seem new but isolated.

it just feels like there isn't really this omniscient supernatural spy-network, though.

they haven't really shown an ability to like actually be aware of anything happening.

but it also feels like the plotting and pacing just haven't really established the scope. everything's too quotidian.

i just worry, though, especially after episode 5, that there's some weird plot-holes.

they woulda smelled or heard Doris hiding in the back, right?!? 'cause like, it wasn't even a trunk, it was a hatchback ... so like, she's literally laying down grabbing flares like a literal 7" from the vampires.

it's so insane that all of this is fueled by marketing budgets. the capitalism of meta-capitalism. like, we're so many layers out. an entire career just around garnering attention so that advertisments can be made. it's so beyond non-sensical. shelter-building, then farming, then art, and now ads.

but it's definitely messed-up when someone has like a reasonable but small issue, and other people have truly reasonable and truly huge issues, and then people are trying to make comparisons like those are equivalent. it's just not. nothing's minimized, but there needs to be a sense of scale.

i think, in a lot of ways, you just can't actually have honest conversations when everyone's on camera and performing for an audience. like, even in the more truly emotionally intense conversations, there was that theme of guilt and not wanting to ruin peoples' lives (even when they were evil).

ugh, what a weird and kinda sad ending... it just feels like a lot of people leaned into "self-producing" in the last few episodes. no one was gonna agree on terminology, no one was gonna agree on what's comparable or not, and so it feels like they all agreed to a mostly performative sharing circle.
