SNW S3 is more patchy and suffered from the writer’s strike I believe. BUT there are still 4-5 excellent episodes in the mix - one or two of which are up there in the top 5 or so of the whole series - and only 1-2 duds imho. Still strongly looking forward to S4

Also - I found the switching of the characters, and the intro of Christoph Walz so muddled it just over complicated things. Several other things felt unclear. I can’t put my finger on it but I Shelly’s morality tale somehow got bypassed with this balance.

Lemme try be creative in a public forum to respect those who’ve not seen it. By making William an adult rather than kid you lose the impact of killing an innocent kid, ditto Victor’s wife. So the danger of the creature, his rage + vengeance is reduced & much of the menace & lesson is reduced

I dunno LA Confidential well enough but trust your judgement. Here yes the father bit worked. But I felt the forest family betrayal was so muted & the killing by the creature of an innocent was entirely lost in the switch of characters & the purpose of Waltz’s character baffled to me

Vicktor’s relationship with his Dad I felt worked and had a logic and interested me.
Completely altering the nature of the relationships with 3 other main characters in Victor’s life I felt actual reduced the power of the story & seemed very confused (sorry - trying to stay spoiler free here 😁)

Fair point. However I’m not certain the spirit survived in this case. I’m not a stickler for “orthodoxy” but here there seemed to be several choices that were just strange and I felt confused the story for no added value (one or two choices did work tho)

To be fair it’s a while since i read the book. I do recall the creature is immensely strong but other characteristics depicted (trying to stay spoiler free) weren’t as I recall for sure 😀

It looks amazing but I adore the book and felt it made a LOT of unnecessary changes to the plot for no additional value (in fact some made no sense to me) so I found it hugely frustrating. But there was a lot to like too.

There is Chief Kyle in SNW season 1 (but granted not many! Or maybe they just don’t exist on the bridge??) ….But you’ll find Red and Blue shirts in later eps and seasons of SNW

Easy - Pike’s fate in Through the Valley of the Shadows. Set us on a path to SNW. Disco was ok I just prefer my Trek episodic, more ensemble and optimistic (though it improved on that)

I think Strange New Worlds has done a pretty decent job and S3 suffered from writer and actor strike disruption. But would’ve been more balanced with even 12 rather than just the 10 Paramount could afford. Shoulda stuck with steaming via Netflix and we could’ve had the 13-15 episodes Disco got.

It’s quite the most terrifying film I’ve seen in ages. I’m a bit allergic to horror!! But it’s stayed with me and is excellent. Deserves a wide audience

Episode 4 is excellent if you want to hang in there. Personally I love it (also fan since TOS and pre TNG) and Pike is now my fave Captain. But we all like different things.

Can’t find common ground I meant. That’s another thing. We really need to be able to edit posts. Helps avoid confusion and allows people to reflect rather than just react.

Some might. Not all. It doesn’t have to be that way. Everyone’s so polarised and thanks to social media we never actually speak with each other anymore face to face and get so entrenched and find common ground. Centre and left need to unite or we’re stuck with the rabid right.

Seriously? This crew have been attacked, killed by Gorn and have less knowledge of the Gorn than Kirk does later. Even in Arena the Gorn kill starfleet at the start of the episode. Plus have you watched Terrarium? Which shows a different side. There’s a continuum here I think you’re overlooking.
