A new study found that mining tailings are an untapped resource for battery supply chains. Capturing just 10% of the cobalt already mined and processed but lost to waste streams in the US would supply the entire US battery market with cobalt.

One way automakers can reduce the carbon emissions in their supply chains is to source minerals from regions where the carbon intensity of extraction is lower.

According to @theicct.org the carbon intensity of Chilean lithium is 86% lower than Australian ore, & 67% lower than US lithium carbonate.
