100%. perfect timing for those who oppose Assad & Putin. Would be a good move if it has western backing to try and strain Putin in Ukraine. Russia have done a few bombing runs against the Syrian rebels in the last few days but I don’t think Russia can afford much else. You see 🇷🇺have lost kit there?

Russia turned the tide of the rebel insurgency in Syria in 2015. They are more than capable of doing it again. I’m not sure about maritime support though. Although I’m sure I read the other day that one of their naval ships had bombarded the Syrian coast.
