In London, healthy life expectancy (HLE) has decreased for females, and there is no significant change for males. However, these values mask significant variation in HLE between and within London’s boroughs.

London's Economic Outlook: Spring 2025.
London’s real GVA is forecast to grow by 1.6% in 2025. Growth is expected to strengthen modestly to 1.7% in 2026 and 1.9% in 2027.

Children’s average happiness score (out of 10) in London has remained relatively stable, although it has decreased slightly since 2017/18.

State of London-Crime
During the pandemic, recorded crime levels in London reduced significantly, but was followed by year-on-year increases between 2021/22 & 2023/24.
The crime level may now have stabilised, with a 0.6% increase in the last year.

The State of London - Transport
The proportion of total trips in London made by walking, cycling or public transport increased from 59.6% in 2010 to 63.6% in 2019.
Following a decline during the pandemic, the mode share increased in 2023 to 63.2%.

Looking at the relative poverty measure with the threshold of 50% of the national median, it can be seen that around 1 in 5 Londoners (19%) are in this deeper form of poverty, roughly 1.7 million Londoners.

The State of London - Economy
London’s economic growth recovered strongly post-COVID, with growth rates of 7.7% in 2021 and 8.1% in 2022.
Growth slowed to 0.3% in 2023, with a projected increase of 1.1% in 2024, slightly above the UK's growth rate.

This working paper provides new data & novel analysis of in-work poverty in London between 1996 and 2023.
Poverty has changed. There are now more people in poverty in London who are in a working family than in a workless family. The reverse was true 30 years ago.
