Anecdotal, but growing up I had the same surgery twice. The first time I had to stay in the hospital, the second time I got to go home. Overall, the recovery and bounce back time from when I got to go home was much quicker and easier than when I had to stay overnight at the hospital.

That only happens when you are tracking something and want to make sure it isn't getting rapidly worse. Source is me who has an optic glioma that needed yearly MRIs as a kid to ensure it wasn't turning cancerous.
