Matty seems like the kind of guy who’s angry because his wife used mayonnaise instead of miracle whip in his bologna and American cheese on Wonder bread sandwich.

In the Catholic Tradition, sin is always rooted in intention. In an analogous way we talk about “original” and “social” sins mostly because they break our relation to God/neighbors. Evil then is merely the absence of good, and isn’t inherently tied to sin

I disagree. One thing that makes fascism so terrifying is it usually knows how to play optics. Like the big Nuremberg rallies or the Fascist headquarters in Rome.
This is Dollar Tree fascism.

This is, without a hint of exaggeration, one of the genuinely most satanic things I’ve ever seen.

I’m old enough to remember when they did this a decade ago to Millennials. The idea is generally to make older generations unsympathetic to the problems facing younger generations. Because if we have solidarity, we could actually change things.

It’s a weird experience, mostly precipitated by the confluence of my location in #HongKong, work in Christian approaches to #AI, and the realization of Christian groups that AI is a big problem, but I’m probably the most ecumenical AI ethics researcher in the world right now.

You’re not wrong. When the WCC put together their response to AI, one of the major issues identified explicitly was “empire.” I’m not expecting this as a major topic at WEA.

So, it should probably be no surprise that the app for the general assembly looks like this, complete with a Leaderboard so you can measure how well you’re engaging with the app compared to your fellow attendees!

So I’ve found generally there are more pro-tech evangelical groups than any other religious group, such as TheoTech, FaithTech and Gloo, among others. Personally, that doesn’t sit well with me because it feels like a commodification of faith than genuine engagement.

My general feeling is that Evangelicals, as evangelical, are far more interested in the Great Commission than social justice. So the problems of exploitation, bias, inequality and theft AI often engenders are less crucial than its role as a tool for preaching the Gospel.

But whereas Catholic and ecumenical conversations I’ve been in have treated AI with reservation and due caution, a lot of Evangelicals are more strongly in favor (or dogmatically against) it. Here are some polls for our session on AI illustrating some of the attitudes.

I’m attending the World Evangelical Alliance General Assembly this week to talk with AI and Faith on AI. In a way it’s similar other meetings I’ve been in like WCC and CCA, insofar as everyone is concerned about AI now.

There’s a case to be made, if anything were to soften those hearts of stone, that ICE activity is anti-Catholic.

You couldn’t even get a single US city on this list without creatively combining a couple cities, but they’ve somehow missed that China has more than 18 mega cities?

This chart is really weird. Chongqing, Wuhan, Shenzhen, and Guangdong all ought to be on here. They just didn’t want China to occupy too many spots?

I thought this was a very good point until I remembered that the British deserve to be mercilessly mocked at every chance and the Japanese say katsu for cutler.
