4 days in a row of #chess activities with mixed results 😉 Lost in 2 team matches, mainly because of bad decisions in the middlegame. On Saturday I coached 2 youth players at a regional qualification tournament, in which they both overperformed. Sunday: we hosted an all Girls event, which was great.

Refereeing at a youth blitz competition, in which traditional clocks are used for the younger participants.

Had a two hours training session with one of our youth club members, in preparation of a regional tournament. We used some pre WW2 games (Euwe, Mencik) to look at opening and middlegame plans. And yes, I learned some new things as well (and barely managed to win the closing training game). 👍 ♟

Tough Day at the office. Regional open speedchess tournament, 13 rounds. Two draws, 2 wins, 1 bye and 8 losses, mainly due to ridiculously bad time management 🕰️😎. 3 +2 is not my time controle ❌

Two chess activities during the weekend: on Saturday - non-playing captain for our club team in the Nationals (lost 2-6), on Sunday I was one of the volunteers at a youth tournament in Amsterdam.

With some members of my club we organized the Nationals for teams u12. Twelve teams from all over the country competed today (our own u12 team stumbled a few weeks back on the last hurdle in the semis). Great day, some really great matches.

Mixing up 2 lines in a very standard opening. I can do that and subsequently lose a piece. Without compensation, that's right, yes. Well, onwards and upwards 😉♟

Coaching duties at a youth tournament today. Great event, well organized. 5 Kids of our club, 2 top-3 spots in their groups plus some nice matches.

National League, round 3: my team lost 1-7 to the Nr.1 in our table. I managed to make one of our two draws. Unhappy with the overall result, my own match was quite decent.

Working my way through a backlog of game evaluations. 12 classical OTB games this month so far (W2, D5, L5 - 4 of those 5 during the last eight days 🙃). 4 games I've analyzed earlier in prep for another match, today: 4 down, 4 to go. #chesspunks

Club night. Many players in the Youth section. In the Open mostly players who did not play yesterday in our team match. All but one Black victories (not me 😉). Equal game against one of the experienced players. My love for bishops, unwillingness to trade against a strong knight caused this defeat ♟

Lost in thoughts, trying to save what can be saved. Round 5 of the @amsterdam.chess.open (2nd edition). Eventually I manage to get a draw. I finish the tournament with 3.5 out of 6.
