So they can target their “enemies?”

Some white Americans are hopeless racists but many have been led down this path from years of being fed propaganda from trusted “news” sources. If you allow one side unfettered access to poison the public discourse, don’t be surprised when an information vacuum is created.

Again, it’s not the actual message of the party that’s the problem, it’s the ineffectiveness with which they’ve been able to deliver that message. We simply don’t have anything close to the messaging ecosystem that the right has been building for 30+ years.

Years of Limbaugh, Fox News, Hannity, etc. The Democratic Party needed to counter the right wing assault on truth and decency with their own messaging but was content to stick to a traditional media strategy. At minimum they could’ve fought to restore the fairness doctrine vs unchecked propaganda

I could easily make the argument that it is people like you who turn others off from the Democratic Party. Not sure if you’ve been paying attention but the purity tests aren’t working.

You’ve described the result re: white people but you’re ignoring the years of propaganda they’ve been consuming.

Ridiculous. You’re seriously no different than a Trump cult member at this point. Any criticism of the dear leader must be met with fierce resistance and attacked. Calling allies thumbtacks because you disagree with them on what is a good faith opinion on what’s best for America in this moment.

Dems being unable to beat someone as historically dangerous as Trump would point to much bigger issues than infighting. I don’t disagree that infighting, especially around Gaza, hurt us, but we have been losing the messaging battle going back to the 90s and the Dem brand is in the toilet as a result

Your argument assumes Schumer is the leader who will hold every seat and add more. It also assumes we’ll have free and fair elections in the future. Given the rate at which MAGA is tearing down our institutions, that shouldn’t be taken as a given.
April 18, 2025 at 4:35 AM
Also, aren’t the competing voices within the party a good thing? Let’s hash everything out and find solutions but blind loyalty to party leaders probably isn’t the answer. We’re not MAGA.
April 18, 2025 at 2:09 AM
Holding your party to a higher standard isn’t a bad thing.

Democratic voters can use their voices to push their elected leaders but ultimately they’re the ones we’ve empowered and we should expect them to use every bit of that power to fight back against a fascist takeover of the country.
April 18, 2025 at 2:09 AM
It’s pretty clear we’re not going to get out of this mess until we start winning the messaging war. Way too many Americans cringe when they even hear the word Democrat. That’s not because our policies have failed, it’s because the party still hasn’t figured out how to beat the propaganda machine.

I loved everything about Biden’s record in office, and still consider him the greatest president of my lifetime, but it’s also clear he wasn’t the right leader for this moment. I would love to get back to an era where policy is all that matters but that’s not our current reality.
April 18, 2025 at 1:47 AM
Yes, all nice battles we won in the existential war we’re losing badly. And stop with the Al Gore’s internet nonsense. We’re on the same team here.

For me it isn't really about what Chuck should be doing, it's that Chuck needs to step aside. He has a proven track record as a loser and we've arrived at a time when we simply can't afford to lose or everything is lost. /End

McConnell stealing SCOTUS seats in broad daylight. Citizens United. Even our one big win, the ACA, is a corporate backed Republican healthcare plan. Now civil liberties and what's remaining of our democracy are slipping away and Chuck is acting like it's politics as usual. /3

The Democratic Party has sadly become weak and ineffective and it's time to stop making excuses for the people who have been in charge while we've lost on nearly every issue that matters for the past 25 years. Where are we on gun control, or abortion, or the climate? /2
April 17, 2025 at 8:03 PM
He may be doing fine for the year 2000 but we're very much not living in the year 2000. Hence the takes on being more like McConnell. If Dems were the ones tearing down the rule of law to push through a progressive agenda, do you think McConnell's response would look anything like Schumer's? /1
April 17, 2025 at 8:03 PM
I think what David is saying, and what most Democracy loving Americans want right now, is for Schumer to meet the moment. The constitution and the rule of law are being set on fire so while you may not think his role as a leader is to grab a microphone, many of us see things differently.
April 17, 2025 at 1:06 PM
Is corporate Dems better for you? I don't understand how anybody can keep defending these people given where we've ended up under their watch. We've lost nearly every major battle in the past 30 years. Erosion of civil liberties, Citizen United, Roe v Wade, gun control, climate, democracy itself.
