He took the name myles na gopaleen from a smash hit melodrama of the 1850s by dion boucicault. Has anyone written about this or studied the sources of his other pseudonyms?

You shouldn't correct the glosses at all. You should retain pharrs glosses even if they seem wrong. Imffho
