Phi - The Grand Decline (7/10)
Act II - (7/10)
Act III (8/10)

I've finally accepted The Grand Decline's purpose as a singular testimony within the census of Everywhere at the End of Time took. Phi's individuality in transmogrifying his samples for a perspective is unmatched.

Saka - Monomyth (8/10)

Skull shaking shit to stomp around to #9 of the year. Ifrit makes me do the Christian Bale face because of how well the sub is designed. Not a lot else to say.

The Caretaker - Persistent Repetition of Phrases (8/10)

It's wild how, in spite of basically being the exact same approach to his music, Kirby put together a longing stare outside of a window with streaming raindrops into audio, and wilder how he hasn't captured this feeling in other works.

Defi - Kuulolla on cool olla (4/10)

Perfectly ok Twitch brb music with Polish (?) rap. Every track I was enticed by the blend of classical instrument samples and then frustrated at hearing the saltwater gargle flow that immediately followed. Currently looking for instrumentals.

Hamilton (2020) (10/10)

People that are excessively unpatriotic do so because they assign this country’s identity to a visible mass that wants them to do exactly that, to keep the dissent loud and allow them to pick up the pieces. There is so much more than admin, and so much better than the chaos.

Ternion Sound - Digital Artifice (7/10)

100% worth stomaching the UK drill to get to some solely unique sound design, and even the songs with fungal features have some really infectious rhythms to them if you can let go and just feel out the music. Also, Artifice blows me away in this state.

Doom: The Dark Ages (9/10)

As close to the classics as this franchise has gotten, even closer than 2016 I'd argue. The weight of your position, the treating of enemies as masses, the commitment to your current weapon, the bullet hell, id really nailed the combat this time after Eternal.

Noisia Radio (Seasons 1 - 6) (8/10)

This radio show has been something I've chipped away at for years and years, and it has introduced me to incredible music. I felt like I got to live in those glorious years of electronic music that I missed out on.

The Artifex/Downstream - Outside Inward (Seeing Faces) (10/10)

Unshackled, uncompromising, genuine, impossible.

Stringing words together to describe this is like asking for shooting stars to trail each other.

Exasperating, all-encompassing, bare

Other Phanerons - One Day After Another

Carried with the grace and self awareness of Milwaukee Protocol without the joy. It’s brick headed, occasionally very funny, and overall kind of a crazy existence.

The Caretaker - An Empty Bliss Beyond This World (6/10)

Validation for my appreciation of EATEOT being stages 4-6. Achieves the trademark quality of mood, but get incredibly repetitive in its dullest moments, and the reprise track that just adds coughing is laughable compared to Kirby’s best ideas.

End Street - Reflection of Agony (7/10)

The angsty, bitter younger sibling of We Are Eternal, sometimes inspired, sometimes derivative, hell even sometimes intelligent parody. It filters the light out of this world and approaches struggle with a one track mind: Die

Four Tet - There is Love in You (9/10)

The most joyous form of the tranquility that people attribute EDM to. Four Tet's character that comes with his music is unmatched, and what makes the social aspect of raves unmistakably attractive and necessary.

War of the Worlds (2025) (1/10)

This movie is dangerous.

Defilus - Radio aktivia (6/10)

My appreciation for this project comes entirely from fascination, because it is otherwise tracker file sound design that is entirely short experimental snippets loosely organized. It sounds just good enough to make that production worth the effort.

Svdden Death - VOYD 2.5 (Part I-III) (8/10)

80% remixes that are 50% good, and the rest is the runic, unholy IDs we’ve been looking to love for months. Hell some of my favorites on this project ended up being surprises from Tape B and MVRDA, bringing home what we knew going to slap from day 1.

The Caremaker & Viewers like You - We are Eternal (9/10)

Doing horrible things, knowing they’re horrible, knowing you won’t feel good, knowing the impact that will be brought unto you and those you love, and then doing them anyway.

Dante Timberwolf - Everywhere at the End of Time with Voices (1/10)
July 31, 2025 at 12:42 AM
Matt Eder - CJD (2/10)

Wholly underdeveloped, notably swapping between different static samples every track, reducing Kirby's idea down to terminal Mad Libs, and otherwise just kinda bad. B2 is hilarious, D2 is woefully inspirationally dry, D5 is hilarious. Most of this album is hilarious.

Ok fuck it you’ve had it too good

PhiSigma (The Artifex) - The Grand Decline Act I (4/10)

Mozart music playlist to make your baby smart (slow + reverb). Like maybe 5 out of the 100 some tracks make a spark and the rest is mimicry. Very glad Phi got way better than this.

Now that I have the stomach for it, Record 8 and 9 is probably the best string of “decay in a wind tunnel” narrative soundscaping I know. The reactions I get when the music tries to fight the fog horns and tearing of flesh is visceral.

Also LOOK AT THESE COVERS.

PhiSigma - Counting the Journey’s Days (8/10)

Best of those that would label themselves an imitator, best of the followers of a rather mundane and boring original project, best in just a whole lot of things revolving around the subgenre of CJD music and other dementoids.
